Calling out any Perversion of Scripture – 8-4-22

“But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.” Galatians 1:8 NKJV

RELATIONSHIP:

Do you already have a relationship with a powerful God who cares about your every need because He loves you? Did you know my God can communicate with you and protect you – He has a plan for you to prosper if you just submit to His will and let His plan play out in your life!!! God wants a relationship with you and has already made a plan for your life. He loves you so much He sent His son to this world, to die as a sacrifice for your sins and rise from death with victory over sin and the ability to have a personal relationship with you.

Do you want to know truth? Be able to discern lies? Know how to figure it all out in these confusing times and have peace? The Bible says Jesus is the truth. I have experienced it and it has changed my life. I was once a hot mess of sin, promiscuity, drug and alcohol use and so much more. But I was lost and when I could not find my way, or find a truth, I numbed it with bad choses. When I found Jesus, and truth – I found peace and deliverance from those things.

If you want a relationship with God without truth you will get the counterfeit, hypocritical Christianity that has kept some of you away for too long. You need truth and relationship. You need to be honest with yourself and God (including honest repentance) and God will reveal truth to you. It becomes the two way, interaction that your relationship with God is built on. This is why Jesus is called the truth, because he is our only way to the Father.

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” Romans 10:9-10 NIV
Here is a prayer for you to pray:
Jesus, I believe you are the way, the truth, the life, and the only way to the Father. I believe you are the son of God, you came to Earth and lived. That you died on the cross as a sacrifice for my sins, and rose again so that I may be saved from my sins and be able to get to know you. I declare: Jesus, you are Lord!
Therefore, I confess that I am a sinner and I ask that you forgive me of my sins and come into my life. Help me to turn away from my sins and transform me into what you have lovingly created me to be. Help me through a real personal relationship grow and accept your will for my life – that I may live in your blessings. Please walk with me, and talk with me – I accept a relationship with you and with our Father God, through you. In the name of Jesus I pray ~ Amen

BIBLE READING:

Dear Heavenly Father – Please give us the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of who you are, who Jesus is, and who the Holy Spirit is. Open the eyes of our understanding, please, so we may know the hope of our calling and the vast sovereignty and power of the grace of the cross. Please do not let us miss out on what you want and need from us today. Lord, I pray that your word prepares us and not scares us! We forbid the works and influences of fear over your word and our sound mind. And please keep us and bless us and shine your face upon us and pour out grace over us and give us peace! And we pray for the peace of Jerusalem! Thank you! – In Jesus name we pray, Amen

Today’s reading is the Book of Galatians chapter 1 (embedded below for your convenience in the NKJV).

Greeting

Paul, an apostle (not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised Him from the dead), and all the brethren who are with me,

To the churches of Galatia:

Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

Only One Gospel

I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert[a] the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be [b]accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.

Call to Apostleship

11 But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. 12 For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ.

13 For you have heard of my former conduct in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it. 14 And I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries in my own nation, being more exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my fathers.

15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace, 16 to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood, 17 nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; but I went to Arabia, and returned again to Damascus.

Contacts at Jerusalem

18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see [c]Peter, and remained with him fifteen days. 19 But I saw none of the other apostles except James, the Lord’s brother. 20 (Now concerning the things which I write to you, indeed, before God, I do not lie.)

21 Afterward I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia. 22 And I was unknown by face to the churches of Judea which were in Christ. 23 But they were hearing only, “He who formerly persecuted us now preaches the faith which he once tried to destroy.” 24 And they glorified God in me.

STUDY/DEVOTIONAL:

Welcome to our study of Galatians.  It is a book that is not examined and studied enough. Their issues included the reoccurring issues in all new churches, and new Christians – the struggle of who gets circumcised and who gets to eat what. These are not common issues in the modern church. Most do not even fully comprehend why circumcision was and issue.

In Jewish culture, you could not even enter into the atonement system with sacrifices for sin, unless you were circumcised. Jesus was the sacrifice that completed and ended the atonement system. But for Jews of that time period is was hard to understand a free forgiveness of their sins. They had come to think that being circumcised and the work they did in raising the unblemished lamb was in cooperation with God, and they somehow contributed to their atonement. Missing the free gift that is was they could not accept Jesus’s free gift without feeling like they must add something to it. At least adding the circumcision that gave access into the system.

Paul, an apostle (not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised Him from the dead), and all the brethren who are with me, To the churches of Galatia: Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”

Paul was the last of the Apostles and NOT a disciple. He had an encounter with Jesus on a road to Damascus and Jesus then schooled him in all the things He taught the disciples. Paul was a doctorate of scriptures and already loved and served God – a Pharisee.
Paul wrote to the Galatians in 48-49 AD around the time of the Jerusalem council, which decided the final answer for the early church regarding the law, circumcision and salvation.

I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervertthe gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.”

People were deceiving Christians and perverting the gospel by saying you must be circumcised to follow Christ. Even though, we do not have that specific issue – we have many perverting the salvation message.

We all come to Christ through His blood, to clean us from our sins and free us from the bondage of sin and as a free gift, receive salvation from eternal damnation. There is only one justification – which is the gospel message. It is our foundation and we should defend it and keep it pure.

In Galatia, justification was being confused with sanctification. Sanctification is the process learning to obey. Salvation is free without any work from us. Sanctification is our loving reaction to justification.
Justification is NOT just as if I never sinned – I know I sinned and my sin grieved the Lord and caused my savior to have to die. Justification should always hold an understanding we are not worthy of this cleansing and salvation.

This perversion of the foundation, this corrupted gospel of Christ, saying there is another way is still prevalent in our world.  We know you do not need to be baptized to get to heaven, because the thief on the cross next to Jesus was never baptized.  We know you do not need to be circumcised, something the Galatians were working o understanding.

But can you be a Christian and pro-choice? Can you be a Christian and an evolutionist? Can you be a Christian and take the vaccine? Yes. Salvation comes with NO strings attached and the process of sanctification will work in you to make you more Christ like as you go.

10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.”

There are a lot of people saying many things, adding to salvation. Like telling you to clean up your act before you can be a Christian – when we come as we are and receive it freely, then God helps us clean up our act. I find many of these false prophets and false teachers are a little intimidating. (Although, so are some powerful men of God.) Be careful of the fear of man.

The structure of power and authority in a church is Christ is the head, then the pastor, then the congregation and the board is there to support the pastor. If the pastor fears man, and pleases man than the structure replaces Christ as the head with man as the head – and all power, authority, growth, and the sanctification process become corrupted and ineffective.

What then is even the point?

11 But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. 12 For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ.
13 For you have heard of my former conduct in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it. 14 And I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries in my own nation, being more exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my fathers.
15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace, 16 to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood, 17 nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; but I went to Arabia, and returned again to Damascus.”

Paul was there and experienced the birth of the church. To this day, people say Christianity was manmade – made up – not of God. And Paul bears witness, because he was not in Jerusalem and NOT with the disciples and Christ, Yet Jesus came to him and gave him the same message.

Paul continues on in defense of Christianity. Which is a good lesson for us – as Christians are more and more persecuted. He overcame by the word of his testimony, the blood of the lamb and loving not his life.

18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and remained with him fifteen days.
23 But they were hearing only, “He who formerly persecuted us now preaches the faith which he once tried to destroy.” 24 And they glorified God in me.”

Paul overcame by the word of his testimony, the blood of the lamb and loving not his life and they responded by glorifying God in him! Wow.

Paul sets out to write a letter to defend a pure foundation of the gospel message and to fight to keep the truth clean and precise. I do not know why we tend to complicate things and the enemy exploits us in those complications muddying up the clean word of God.

I have always used the analogy of muddy water – but the truth is, an ever so slight, microscopic drop of mud won’t hurt you. While poison would. The enemy is poisoning the water by corrupting the word.

If Jesus is the WORD, he will accomplish what he set out to. But if it isn’t Jesus, but corrupted poison – what can it accomplish except lies and death.
