Sent. To heal and proclaim the good news. – 7-14-22

Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” Luke 10:19-20 NKJV

RELATIONSHIP:

Do you already have a relationship with a powerful God who cares about your every need because He loves you? Did you know my God can communicate with you and protect you – He has a plan for you to prosper if you just submit to His will and let His plan play out in your life!!! God wants a relationship with you and has already made a plan for your life. He loves you so much He sent His son to this world, to die as a sacrifice for your sins and rise from death with victory over sin and the ability to have a personal relationship with you.

Do you want to know truth? Be able to discern lies? Know how to figure it all out in these confusing times and have peace? The Bible says Jesus is the truth. I have experienced it and it has changed my life. I was once a hot mess of sin, promiscuity, drug and alcohol use and so much more. But I was lost and when I could not find my way, or find a truth, I numbed it with bad choses. When I found Jesus, and truth – I found peace and deliverance from those things.

If you want a relationship with God without truth you will get the counterfeit, hypocritical Christianity that has kept some of you away for too long. You need truth and relationship. You need to be honest with yourself and God (including honest repentance) and God will reveal truth to you. It becomes the two way, interaction that your relationship with God is built on. This is why Jesus is called the truth, because he is our only way to the Father.

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” Romans 10:9-10 NIV
Here is a prayer for you to pray:
Jesus, I believe you are the way, the truth, the life, and the only way to the Father. I believe you are the son of God, you came to Earth and lived. That you died on the cross as a sacrifice for my sins, and rose again so that I may be saved from my sins and be able to get to know you. I declare: Jesus, you are Lord!
Therefore, I confess that I am a sinner and I ask that you forgive me of my sins and come into my life. Help me to turn away from my sins and transform me into what you have lovingly created me to be. Help me through a real personal relationship grow and accept your will for my life – that I may live in your blessings. Please walk with me, and talk with me – I accept a relationship with you and with our Father God, through you. In the name of Jesus I pray ~ Amen

BIBLE READING:

Dear Heavenly Father – Please give us the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of who you are, who Jesus is, and who the Holy Spirit is. Open the eyes of our understanding, please, so we may know the hope of our calling and the vast sovereignty and power of the grace of the cross. Please do not let us miss out on what you want and need from us today. Lord, I pray that your word prepares us and not scares us! We forbid the works and influences of fear over your word and our sound mind. And please keep us and bless us and shine your face upon us and pour out grace over us and give us peace! And we pray for the peace of Jerusalem! Thank you! – In Jesus name we pray, Amen

Today’s reading is the Book of Luke chapter 10 (embedded below for your convenience in the NKJV).

The Seventy Sent Out

10 After these things the Lord appointed [a]seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go. Then He said to them, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves. Carry neither money bag, knapsack, nor sandals; and greet no one along the road. But whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on it; if not, it will return to you. And remain in the same house, eating and drinking such things as they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house. Whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you. And heal the sick there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ 10 But whatever city you enter, and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, 11 ‘The very dust of your city which clings to [b]us we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near you.’ 12 [c]But I say to you that it will be more tolerable in that Day for Sodom than for that city.

Woe to the Impenitent Cities

13 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14 But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you. 15 And you, Capernaum, [d]who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades. 16 He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.”

The Seventy Return with Joy

17 Then the [e]seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”

18 And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but [f]rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

Jesus Rejoices in the Spirit

21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. 22 All[g] things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.

23 Then He turned to His disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes which see the things you see; 24 for I tell you that many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and have not seen it, and to hear what you hear, and have not heard it.

The Parable of the Good Samaritan

25 And behold, a certain [h]lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

26 He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?

27 So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’ ”

28 And He said to him, “You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.”

29 But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

30 Then Jesus answered and said: “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among [i]thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. 33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 On the next day, [j]when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’ 36 So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?”

37 And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.”

Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”

Mary and Martha Worship and Serve

38 Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at [k]Jesus’ feet and heard His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”

41 And [l]Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. 42 But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

MEMORY VERSE CHALLENGE:

Romans 6:1-2-

“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?”

STUDY/DEVOTIONAL:

If we examine ourselves and we are living this – if we are pursuing His purpose – if we are eager to obey and glorify Him, then expect to be sent. In Roman tradition women were never counted, but there is substantial evidence in the Bible that they too were sent. It is highly probable they were sent with their husbands – but sent, none the less. Although it doesn’t say specifically here. We do, however know from other scriptures that we ALL are called to share the good news. To tell anyone and everyone we can.

So let us look at what it looks like when Jesus is training 70 to go out and preach after His death, resurrection and ascension.

1 After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go.”

In training He will send you in teams. Not alone. So you look at me and say, you are alone. I am under authority of my pastor. I am under the author of my mentor (also a pastor).  God also handed me a platform where I am not really going anywhere. There is no danger of travel and staying in stranger’s houses.

Then He said to them, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

So much truer today – with all the fake news and lies spread, people are hungry – so much more hungry – hungrier than ever before. For example my uncle’s funeral was a large group of people who are following a “prophet” and have created a new faith based on this “prophet’s” lies. A room full of hungry people, being devoured by wolves.

Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves.”

I had intercessors lined up to pray for me when I went into that funeral of wolves. They tried to entice me to join them. I said I was a Christian and they said they accept all Christian beliefs. How do you even speak to it when they say they agree, when obviously they do not? There is NO OTHER GOD. Jesus is the ONLY WAY, the ONLY TRUTH, and the ONLY LIFE.

And heal the sick there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’”

And “heal the sick there.” So we are in this, right? WE are doing this Christian thing? Alright – then as my mentor said to me AND as Jesus says right here, starting today, we are looking for opportunity to lay our hands on the sick and pray for their healing.
Funny story: when my mentor first told me to, I was praying I wouldn’t miss the opportunities God was giving me.  Then I got a phone call from a lady in the church who wanted to get together, but she was sick right now and it would have to wait. I paused and thought, do I pray for her now? So I asked her if she wanted me to pray and she said sure, you can pray for me. Then hurried with an: I gotta go now, bye! She is the chronically ill one, it is always something, on top of the other 40 mysteries the doctors cannot figure out or fix.
I saw her in church and I ran up to her and said that I meant pray with her for her. She was surprised (I was surprised I said it too) and she said sure without thinking and was stunned. So I faithed it up with the best faith I could faith, expecting her to be radiant and whole when I was done. I prayed healing for the first thing and then started down the lines of all the known things I knew of. I cast out, canceled, pled the blood, “In Jesus Name”’d it, I quoted verses and swung my sword and declared and decreed. It felt like throwing bouncy balls at a wall, nothing stuck and they all bounced back.
I called my mentor and said – I did it. But nothing happened. She gave insight and wisdom – but I have always wondered why God gave me the impossible and stubborn lady to pray for?
Person after person who needed prayers for healing, said no. And if they said yes, it was something big that really would take a miracle (which made me excited to see) but they did not receive it.

10 But whatever city you enter, and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, 11 ‘The very dust of your city which clings to us we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near you.’ 12But I say to you that it will be more tolerable in that Day for Sodom than for that city. 15 And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades. 16 He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.”

Ok – in case you missed that:
16 He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.”
you see I was told to act on the prayer request – be bold enough to pray and expect impossible things to happen. I am not responsible for if they receive it or not. Some day they will ask God why they were not healed and he’ll say I sent that wild grace girl; I came to you in her but you rejected me in her.

Meanwhile, I still look for every opportunity to pray for people and pray for healing specifically. My prayers used to be so well formed and sounded good in men’s ears. Then they because honest conversation style prayers. Then they became babblings and pleadings that sounded more like a child then an adult with a decent vocabulary. And I do not know why my ability to pray in front of people seemingly declined – but I do know it has become more powerful and effected the more real I am with God and man – showing my flaws and HE gets glorified in my nonsense rambling prayers.

17 Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”

Now. It is great to look up to heaven at every miracle and proclaim “That was so cool!” And I hope we NEVER lose that wonder and awe in God, and overwhelming gratitude when it happens.  But let’s keep things in perspective.

NEVER think we did any of it. The demons are subject to us only IN JESUS NAME. We have been given authority – to use HIS POWER, when plugged into HIM the power source so HE gets the glory and NOT US.
We did nothing.
I had a lady tell me recently, well your faith is so strong and you are plugged in… and I cut her off!! I interrupted and corrected her (and I share this so you do not make this error): You see I am weak. I sometimes call my pastor, my mentor, or my friends while I am in tears struggling to muster enough faith to make it until bed time. Even Paul says when he is weak God is shown strong in him – so Paul had weak moments.
If we aren’t a hot mess, Jesus did not have to die. We cannot even plug into God without God doing it. There is nothing here at all to praise. And I share my mess with you all, so you can skip the falling flat on your face part, by learning from me falling on my face.

18 And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

And while keeping it in perspective, the point of this is that our names are written in the Book of Life. And we can cast out demons and heal people so that they too can have their names written in the Book of Life. Not as a circus show. NOT to show you are better than or more holy than anyone else. It is to save a dying people. And protecting our own salvation.

21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. 22 All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.

Did you catch that? Jesus had an attitude of gratitude!
Because God revealed Himself to babes… like me, in my babbling childlike prayers, which often repeat “oh God”. What children have that adult do not have? They believe and they are real about it. Get real about it and believe (Lord, help our unbelief.)

But none of it can happen unless God makes it happen.

23 Then He turned to His disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes which see the things you see; 24 for I tell you that many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and have not seen it, and to hear what you hear, and have not heard it.

So good! God is so good!

25 And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 He said to him,
“What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?
27 So he answered and said, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’
28 And He said to him,
“You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.”
29 But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 Then Jesus answered and said:
“A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. 35 On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’ 36 So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?”
37 And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.”
Then Jesus said to him,
“Go and do likewise.”

So we go, tell people the good news, heal people AND LOVE PEOPLE.
Oh glory to God this is nothing without LOVE!
I sometimes vent to my friend about how sad situations are and how different news events grieve God and I get all teary eyed. (I told you I am a crier, I cry. And he is much less emotional and worried that I will get swept away in emotions and try to save the world. Even today, he said – you cannot preach again and again and again, harassing them. I responded, I was just hugging them and praying for them in my head. And he laughed, and said he is so worried that I preach at everyone, because I care too much. I even harass God with repeatedly praying for things. I responded with the “persistent widow”. He responded with “vain repetitions”. And I responded with God is SO GOOD to have him in my life to banter with!
So there is a balancing act. Do good and love them – but do not harass them. (And I wasn’t.)

38 Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”

41 And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. 42 But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

And our final lesson is so important. There is a time to learn and a time to serve.

I was in a Bible Study once and was the only woman who showed up because there was also an event the next day and the women decided to set up and get ready during Bible Study time.  I signed up for cleanup duty so I could continue the line by line study of Luke. AND THIS chapter was part of the study that exact night.
The pastor said we would skip these verses in the line by line study since I was the only woman and I chose to be a Mary – obviously we could move on.

Well, no. Because this lesson is NOT for only women. And I know at women’s meetings and conferences and such – it is examined and studied with extreme scrutiny. Women have learned EVERY possible lesson you can extract from verses 38-42. While men skip over it. STOP IT.

I am glad it is at the end and we ALL can spend the day meditating on this while looking for opportunities to lay hands on the sick to pray for them. There is a time to study and a time to serve. We must do both. Obviously, serving had to happen, so maybe the serving was late because the studying of the word came first.

Seek first the Kingdom of God then everything else is added. Then.
