“For He is Good” Psalm 107:1

“Whoever is wise will observe these things, And they will understand the lovingkindness of the Lord.” Psalm 107:43 NKJV

We should pray for wisdom and understanding for ourselves always. We should pray for it for other Christians as well that we can all understand, all grow deeper, and so we can all be hungry for more of God.

Dear Heavenly Father – As always, please open eye to see and our ears to hear what you are saying! Lord – open our understanding that we may know you. Please do not let us miss out on what you want and need from us today. And please keep us and bless us and shine your face upon us and pour out grace over us and give us peace! Thank you! – In Jesus name we pray, Amen

Today’s reading is from the book of Psalms, chapter 107 (embedded below for your convenience).

Today’s opening verse is one of the verses that sets up a literary ‘catch 22’ when taken like this outside of context and then applied to other similar verses with similar content. Let me explain:

“We love Him because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19 NKJV

We come to God because of His lovingkindness – AND it is GOD who reveals it to us – makes us understand.
BUT in the verse above it says “whoever… observes these things” are the people who understand.
Therefore you must already obey the way of God to understand, yet you need understand in order to come to Him so you can obey Him. (I know a few of you HATE when I deconstruct a verse like this – but don’t I always put it back together?! Hang in there!)

So I break it down to Hebrew:

מִי־ (mî-) Let him who
חָכָ֥ם (ḥā·ḵām) is wise,
וְיִשְׁמָר־ (wə·yiš·mār-) pay heed
אֵ֑לֶּה (’êl·leh) to these things
וְ֝יִתְבּֽוֹנְנ֗וּ (wə·yiṯ·bō·wn·nū) and consider
חַֽסְדֵ֥י (ḥas·ḏê) the loving devotion
יְהוָֽה׃ (Yah·weh)

Now – let’s put it all back together.  Once I was lost, a sinner and living wrong – and the Love of God drew me to him, as my world became more and more of a mess of the consequences of my sin – God revealed the truth and His love – ONLY HE COULD FIX IT! And not “fix” as in “take away the consequences of sin” – No that is not the fix!  He fixed by taking away the sin, so I do not keep screwing it up. He fixed by helping me through the battles, the trial and even the consequences. Fixed, because I have access to His goodness and abundant life. Fixed because I have an eternal hope of continuing a real relationship with the father after my life on this planet (after we pass away). And now I am “wise” at least in reference to this verse and I sit here and pay heed to these things and consider the loving devotion of my Lord! And it pours out of me like Psalm 107!

Yes – today’s reading! Starts with praise and worship – it goes into my testimony, your testimony and every one of my brothers and sisters testimonies – then concludes in worship!

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.” Revelation 12:11-12 NKJV

Even in Revelations when you give your testimony it causes us to rejoice and worship with the heavens and all who dwell in them!! So while you are reading Psalms 107, below think of your testimony and be free! Because it is time

For He says: “In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” 2 Corinthians 6:2 NKJV

It is time and you were made for such a time as this.

This month is the celebration of Pentecost… the feast commemorating the goodness of the Lord in bringing the Israelites into the land of milk and honey. It is a spring feast of the first harvest of the spring – light leafy veggies, milk and honey, nuts and early berries… so good! Well, if on new year’s we spoke of crossing the red sea and we have pressed through the dessert and the hard times and we have done the work and continue to look forward to our promises from God… then isn’t it about time to receive our promise land so we might be able to enjoy the Pentecost feast?!

The early Christians had watched their savior die on a cross, raise from the dead and hang out with them for 40 days and then leave to go to heaven… they fasted in the days leading up to the Pentecost feast. They gathered together to give thanks while waiting for “the comforter” to come. They prayed in one accord (did they even get to the meal?! I don’t know, all I know is the Holy Spirit came rushing down and poured out over them with the sound of a rushing mighty wind and little tongues on fire. They got their promise on Pentecost! The promise of the comforter! How much more did they have to celebrate and worship God for?! Because for the second time they were entering a promise land! This time is flowed with milk of anointing and honey of boldness!

So let us challenge ourselves and grow our faith this month. What is your promise? Do you have the word of the lord for it? The Israelites had the word of the Lord for the promise land and the disciples had the word of Jesus for the promised comforter.  Be bold – pull out the verse of your promise. Leave it in a comment here or on social media so myself and my prayer team can pray in agreement with you for your promises this month!

“God promised: _______ and the verse is: ______.”

Let us get more interactive this month! Let us hold each other up better! Let me give examples to help you make your declaration of promise:
“God promised healing and the verse is Isaiah 53:5 “with his stripes we are healed”.
“God promised deliverance and the verse is Galatians 1:4, Jesus “gave himself as a sacrifice … to rescue us”
“God promised provisions and the verse is Philippians 4:19, “God shall supply all your needs”.

What is yours?!?! Stir your faith! I say all the time that the Bible says it, I believe it and that settles it – but guess what?!?! The Bible says it – and it doesn’t matter if I believe it, because it is still true.  If I chose not to believe I just do not receive it because I remain blind to it.  I must open my eyes and believe to receive personally.  I know none of this is easy. It is all very simple, but not easy. BUT IT IS ALL WORTH IT! I know, because I am living it!

Mark 16:17-18 is this month’s (two for one special) memory verse! Why? Because THIS IS MY PROMISE STATEMENT!
God promised that His Bible is real and true. God promised this whole relationship with Him is real and true. AND MY PROMISE STATEMENT IS THAT GOD PROMISED THAT SIGNS WILL FOLLOW THOSE WHO BELIEVE! And the verses are:  “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

I am saved, I am healed, I am delivered, I am provided for…. I am going deeper!

I do not care what level you are on, if you are new to this then I will help you alone. If you are ready to be freed from addiction, demonic strongholds, ancestral curses and the like – I stand here delivered and tell you with all assurance Jesus still sets the captives free! Stick around, we will pray it through with you. And if you want to go deeper and ask for the revelations – take my hand and let us go deep!

RELATIONSHIP:
Do you already have a relationship with a powerful God who cares about your every need because He loves you? Did you know my God can communicate with you and protect you – He has a plan for you to prosper if you just submit to His will and let His plan play out in your life!!! God wants a relationship with you and has already made a plan for your life. He loves you so much He sent His son to this world, to die as a sacrifice for your sins and rise from death with victory over sin and the ability to have a personal relationship with you.
9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” Romans 10:9-10 NIV
Here is a prayer for you to pray:
Jesus, I believe you are the way, the truth, the life, and the only way to the Father. I believe you are the son of God, you came to Earth and lived. That you died on the cross as a sacrifice for my sins, and rose again so that I may be saved from my sins and be able to get to know you. I declare: Jesus, you are Lord!
Therefore, I confess that I am a sinner and I ask that you forgive me of my sins and come into my life. Help me to turn away from my sins and transform me into what you have lovingly created me to be. Help me through a real personal relationship grow and accept your will for my life – that I may live in your blessings. Please walk with me, and talk with me – I accept a relationship with you and with our Father God, through you. In the name of Jesus I pray ~ Amen

Thank you for reading.
May the God of peace keep you and bless you. May you stay focused on Christ and covered in grace.

BIBLE READING: Psalms 107 NKJV

Thanksgiving to the Lord for His Great Works of Deliverance

107 Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His [a]mercy endures forever.
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,
Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy,
And gathered out of the lands,
From the east and from the west,
From the north and from the south.

They wandered in the wilderness in a desolate way;
They found no city to dwell in.
Hungry and thirsty,
Their soul fainted in them.
Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
And He delivered them out of their distresses.
And He led them forth by the right way,
That they might go to a city for a dwelling place.
Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
For He satisfies the longing soul,
And fills the hungry soul with goodness.

10 Those who sat in darkness and in the shadow of death,
Bound[b] in affliction and irons—
11 Because they rebelled against the words of God,
And [c]despised the counsel of the Most High,
12 Therefore He brought down their heart with labor;
They fell down, and there was none to help.
13 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
And He saved them out of their distresses.
14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,
And broke their chains in pieces.
15 Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
16 For He has broken the gates of bronze,
And cut the bars of iron in two.

17 Fools, because of their transgression,
And because of their iniquities, were afflicted.
18 Their soul abhorred all manner of food,
And they drew near to the gates of death.
19 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
And He saved them out of their distresses.
20 He sent His word and healed them,
And delivered them from their destructions.
21 Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
22 Let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving,
And declare His works with [d]rejoicing.

23 Those who go down to the sea in ships,
Who do business on great waters,
24 They see the works of the Lord,
And His wonders in the deep.
25 For He commands and raises the stormy wind,
Which lifts up the waves of the sea.
26 They mount up to the heavens,
They go down again to the depths;
Their soul melts because of trouble.
27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man,
And [e]are at their wits’ end.
28 Then they cry out to the Lord in their trouble,
And He brings them out of their distresses.
29 He calms the storm,
So that its waves are still.
30 Then they are glad because they are quiet;
So He guides them to their desired haven.
31 Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
32 Let them exalt Him also in the assembly of the people,
And praise Him in the company of the elders.

33 He turns rivers into a wilderness,
And the watersprings into dry ground;
34 A fruitful land into [f]barrenness,
For the wickedness of those who dwell in it.
35 He turns a wilderness into pools of water,
And dry land into watersprings.
36 There He makes the hungry dwell,
That they may establish a city for a dwelling place,
37 And sow fields and plant vineyards,
That they may yield a fruitful harvest.
38 He also blesses them, and they multiply greatly;
And He does not let their cattle decrease.

39 When they are diminished and brought low
Through oppression, affliction, and sorrow,
40 He pours contempt on princes,
And causes them to wander in the wilderness where there is no way;
41 Yet He sets the poor on high, far from affliction,
And makes their families like a flock.
42 The righteous see it and rejoice,
And all iniquity stops its mouth.

43 Whoever is wise will observe these things,
And they will understand the lovingkindness of the Lord.
