Shut Your Mouth! Part 3

“Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.” Proverbs 10:19 NLT
Let’s continue to talk about everything you need to know before you open your mouth again. I am trying to cover this in only 6 posts – 3 more to come. Are you with me?!

Dear Heavenly Father – We have seen so many loose mouths spitting out lies, negativity and curses – help us to not participate. Let us discern truth from lies and live in truth. Help us to stand firm in the positivity and hope of our redemption. And please keep and guard us from speaking curses, especially unknowingly. Please open our eyes to see and our understanding to the ways of you. – In Jesus name we pray, Amen

Our words can be the most powerful tool of God. But they can also be used to curse, lie and destroy.  All over the world words are being used to spread fear, destroy lives and careers, and to appease the lusts of the flesh; so this is prevalent to all my international readers as well. Let us first apply these lessons to our own mouths before we are too quick to judge others.

There is power in words – words can bring life as well. If your words do not bring life you may have actually slid away from God. Besides the consequences of becoming a child of the devil and being turned away by God (as we saw yesterday). The Bible warns of other consequences of not controlling your words.
Venting, coping, and asking for prayer from others – It’s been a long year of God teaching me to be wise with my words. In public I was great at it, but in private with trusted best friends and prayer groups – I have vented and asked for prayer in ways that were not edifying to the people I felt were wronging me. And even though those who heard took it as insight on how to pray – none the less I have learned I was wrong and need to clean it up. I can ask for prayer and testify what God is doing with careful, powerful, life giving words. Because even this sin has consequences as it was literally whispered in private rooms.
“Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops.” Luke 12:3 ESV
Many people, as well as myself, are praying for truth to be revealed – in politics (in global arenas as well as local), in the world of famous people and influencers, in news media, and in our lives. And God keeps reminding me of this verse – what is said and done in private will be exposed. Will be exposed. Check yourself – He is exposing people! Each of us are not exempt!

This applies to good works and good words as well – do good works and say life giving words unto God in private and He will lift you up! We see it over and over in scripture.

“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:21 NIV

Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.” Galatians 6:7 ESV

For both life giving words and death giving – you reap what you sow.  Although we know if we sow barley then barley will grow and if we give our offering we reap financial blessings. But if you say living giving words to others, others will bless you with life giving words. If you pray life into other people’s lives – others will pray life into your life. Good stuff. Everyone gets bless.
This principle does not work exactly the same way on the flip side. If you curse someone who is NOT covered by God’s protection in that area, then your curse is not only completed (and you are guilty of the act) but now you still must reap and therefore someone will curse you the same leaving you guilty of causing others to sin as well. Oh as it all snowballs out of control towards hell itself!
If you curse the president (but He is in place because God put Him there [Romans 13]) and the president is covered by the prayers of the saints (1 Timothy 2:1-2) then the curse cannot fall onto him. Where then does it go?  It doesn’t disappear. It doesn’t become void. It isn’t harmless.
YOU reap what you sow – it comes back onto you – you cast your bread upon the waters and the waves wash it back to you (Ecclesiastes 11:1).
Oh be careful not to place your evil words upon the child of God or any whom He is protecting. Be warned.

“For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind. The standing grain has no heads; it shall yield no flour; if it were to yield, strangers would devour it.” Hosea 8:7 ESV

Be warned because even if you do not immediately reap what you have spoken and you seem to be growing in success like the field in the above verse still yields a harvest – it says strangers will devour it. This means someone else will get the fame, success, and outcomes of your work – on top of you finally reaping the evil you spoke out.

“For the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong he has done, and there is no partiality.” Colossians 3:25 ESV

Woe are we if we do not learn this lesson.

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” Ephesians 4:29 ESV

GRACE!!! Grace – oh how we need that amazing grace that saves us!!! We should speak grace into our world! Focus today on speaking grace…

Grace into our relationship with God! Grace into our family relationships and within our homes – Grace to our homes – Grace to our children, and their children and their children! – Grace to our pets – Grace to our finances – Grace to our job and ministries – Grace to our government officials – Grace to our nations – Grace to our souls and the souls of the prodigals and the souls of the lost – Grace to our lives – in the name of Jesus ~amen!

Speak it – pray it – believe it.

If you don’t already, and today you would like to have a relationship with a God who can communicate with you and be part of your life (and protect you) – one who is full of mighty power and tender love, then please know that I have put the “A, B, C’s of Salvation” in my introduction. Shut Your Mouth! Part 2

“Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.” Proverbs 10:19 NLT
Shut your mouth already – now, let’s continue to talk about everything you need to know before you open it again. I am trying to cover this in only 6 posts – 4 more to come. Are you ready to jump back in?!

Talk, words, and utterances from our mouths can be the most powerful tool of God. But it can also be used to curse, lie and destroy.  In light of some of the shockingly inhumane responses to the presidential debate (in the United States) and the United States’ president’s diagnosis of covid-19, we are studying the power in words. Responses have come from all over the world, so this is prevalent to all my international readers as well. And as I have read world news from other countries, loose mouths carelessly speaking is a global pandemic.  Let us first apply these lessons to our own mouths before we are too quick to judge others.
We are all guilty of saying things out of order, saying things we regret, and saying things we didn’t mean in the heat of a painful situation. We have all spoken carelessly from time to time.  We may not have wished someone dead with our words or knowingly cursed someone, and we may not have said things so horrible as we may have wished we said… But we all have something and we shall be held accountable for it, even under grace, as Jesus said:
But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the Day of Judgment.” Matthew 12:36 NASB

So let us learn and understand. Ask forgiveness now for the careless words, repent!  And let us learn to be careful with words and thoughts. Let us speak life as we studied yesterday.
Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a word spoken in right circumstances.” Proverbs 25:11 NASB

As we try to use life giving words – let’s look at what the Bible says about us NOT using life giving words:

The tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.”  James 3:3-6 NLT

Corrupting your whole body – well, there goes all that repentance work we did in order to be counted as righteous; therefore no longer clean without spot, no longer assured of heaven. “Lord, Lord… but I did all these things in your name…” “Oh evil one – your tongue destroyed you” (Matthew 7:21-23)
Our words can set fires…. Fires usually kill, steal and destroy.  It says here that it is set on fire by hell itself! As a believer, in a relationship with God – should our words draw hellfire up here to destroy people? The very same people Jesus died for? The very same souls that someone is praying for you (or someone) to be led by God to show God’s grace to?!  Oh Lord, help us! God is leading us to a few verses here and we should understand what He is saying – open you heart to understand.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10 NIV
Every word you say – ask yourself if those words steal from someone… steal their reputation? Steal their joy? Steal their opportunity to see a real and powerful God through you?
Ask yourself if your words kill.  Words can curse death onto someone.
Ask yourself if your words destroy… destroy self-esteem? Destroy hope, grace and mercy? Destroy belief in God?
If your words steal, kill or destroy – then you are doing the work of the thief (the devil and adversary of God).  Maybe it’s time to question who you serve and if you truly believe in God?  Let me explain further…

Ask yourself if your words are true.  Are you lying, misleading, manipulating??? If you are lying, then, in the words directly quoted from the Bible:
You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” John 8:44 ESV
Therefore if you are lying, misleading and manipulating – your father is the devil and NOT God. You are not of Christ. Furthermore…

If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless.” James 1:26 ESV
Oh Lord, do not let us be worthless to your Kingdom! Do not let us trade our adoption into your inheritance for a place as a child of the devil! Oh God, please forgive us and cleanse us! We, the people of the year 2020, are in need of some deliverance from our evil ways – some serious, humble repentance.
Are your reading this because God wanted to talk to you about your careless words? I am warning you, so that you will not miss what God is doing. He wants you to repent and come back. He loves you and has a plan for you but it does include learning to shut your mouth! Maybe a minute ago you did not even realize how far away you had become – all that matters is any conviction you feel is there for you to repent and be made clean.  Then do not dwell in condemnation – it is not of God.

There is no condemnation in Christ Jesus – repentance brings redemption. Period. Time for us to take a close look at our words and

“Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” Proverbs 16:24 NIV

Sweet healing words! Let us spend today speaking sweet healing words!

Sweet healing into our relationship with God! Sweet healing into our family relationships and within our homes – Sweet healing to our homes – Sweet healing to our children, and their children and their children! – Sweet healing to our pets – Sweet healing to our finances – Sweet healing to our job and ministries – Sweet healing to our government officials – Sweet healing to our nations – Sweet healing to our souls and the souls of the prodigals and the souls of the lost – Sweet healing to our lives – in the name of Jesus ~amen!

Speak it – pray it – believe it.

Shut Your Mouth! Part 1

“Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.” Proverbs 10:19 NLT
Shut your mouth already – now, let us talk about everything you need to know before you open it again. I am trying to cover this in only 6 posts. Are you ready?!

Talk, words, and utterances from our mouths can be the most powerful tool of God. But before we use our mouths for God’s glory, we must first learn to shut our mouths until God says to open them, we must understand the power of words (if we truly understood, we would not speak so carelessly), and we must submit our mouths to God.

I live in the United States and we have made world news lately with our presidential debate and then our president coming down with covid-19.  The new spread through words. The reaction spilled out in conversations, news articles, and social media – with words.  And the most tragic is the words of people wishing the president would die.  Social media companies has declared that posts wishing the president death will be banned as it goes against every platforms content policies – yet, they are still posted – and by people who say they are Christians as well as those who do not profess any faith.

First of all, the president is a human life – have we as a society lost all humanity and regard for human life?!  My heart is broken and distressed. And this display on the heels of the Day of Atonement and the Return – a time of repentance that God called and ordained.  As I have posted before, many want God to heal our land without the sacrifice of repentance. We know the hearts of these people because their words expose them.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.” Psalm 19:14 NASB

There was a reason David prayed this Psalm, and with or without the full understand of the power in words, we should also pray it over ourselves. (I recommend pausing and doing it right now!) But let’s not remain ignorant to the understanding and let us look deeper into this.

If we open our Bibles to the very beginning, book 1, chapter 1, and page 1 – we begin our Bible journey with the first lesson: There is power in words. This must be an extremely important lesson for God to say – make this the beginning of the book that we shall call: the Word of God.

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.” Genesis 1:3 NIV

“God said.”
Words are SO powerful – that when spoken correctly they can create light. And then moments later in the same chapter we see that they can create life!

“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life” 1 John 1:1
Here is another book in the Bible where the author understood that all teachings and lessons begin with the word – from the beginning “the word of life”.  This passage testifying that we can hear it, see it, look upon it and touch it with our hand – hear, see and touch word!!! Yes – words create tangible physical things.  When we speak, words have a profound impact in the spirit realm which in turn effects our physical world.
Now, you and I do not have the knowledge on how to create life through words like God did – but Jesus (who is also known as The Word in John 1), showed us how to create a smaller version of life through spoken word when he healed the centurion’s servant. Healing is life giving.  Jesus offered to go with the centurion to his house to heal the servant in person – but the centurion had an understanding of the order and principles of the spiritual war happening (because he was a trained soldier) and knew that all Jesus had to do was say the word.
“But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed.” Matthew 8:8 ESV

The word, our words, can bring life. Lord God, I speak life into the president and his wife – healing life by the blood of the Lamb! Lord replace iron and oxygen in their blood cells as the enemy steals it from them. Please clean and restore their lungs. Strengthen their bodies and minds. And draw them close to you as you wish that none shall perish. Lord we bless them with life giving words – we speak life! – in the name of Jesus ~ amen

They are humans with souls that God desires saved. Regardless of political belief – pray for life because that is what Jesus says to do. We have the authority according to the word of God – we do not need to go to them to lay hands on to bring healing. We can just speak the words of life from anywhere in the world. And let God be God, doing what He is famous for.

“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:21 NIV

God has been telling us of the power of blessings and curses since well before Jesus was born on earth.  We speak life and blessings – we will enjoy eating the fruits of life and blessings.  BUT if we speak death, we will eat the fruits of death.  Today let’s focus on speaking life so that we can bear the fruit of life!

Life into our relationship with God! Life into our family relationships and within our homes – life to our homes – life to our children, and their children and their children! – life to our pets – life to our finances – life to our job and ministries – life to our government officials – life to our nations – life to our souls and the souls of the prodigals and the souls of the lost – life to our lives – in the name of Jesus ~amen!

Speak it – pray it – believe it.

Strengthened by Grace

“You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus,” 2 Timothy 2:1 ESV

Dear Heavenly Father – We join again today to study what you have for us to learn. Let us be humble and merciful while standing strong and immovable. Please open our eyes to see and our understanding to the ways of you. – In Jesus name we pray, Amen

It would seem God is leading me through 2 Timothy, backwards. I just go where He says to Go and follow the study method I use to see where it all ends up.  And today we start with some much needed grace. In the midst of these times, and as I see them getting worse, I need the grace all the more!

When I returned to Christ I needed an experience with grace – I never had the revelation of grace until then and now I am bathed in it. My old self is made into a new creature, the one He purposed me to be – God beholding His grace. And as much as I thought I needed it then – oh! So much more I need it now – and SO MUCH MORE shall we need it in the future.

Be strengthened by grace, my child. Such sweet words.

Sometimes writing my studies down is quite a difficult task. It is definitely quicker and easier for me to just study and think on it and never take the time to compose full thoughts, let alone write them down. I see how many people out there are doing it – and preaching – and prophesying – and….
And sometimes I want to take a break. I have a headache – but I made a commitment to God to obey and do this and pray over it and all of you who read this.  And my love for you and gratitude that so many of you keep coming back day after day to share this time with me – I must fulfil what God has told me to do.  It amazes me that when God tell you to do something, He also gives you the heart to do it. So, by grace I sit here and type.  By grace you shall read the same passage I have read and see how it has been revealed to me. And by grace we shall be strengthened.

“You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.”2 Timothy 2:1-2 ESV
The word of God has been entrusted to us because we are faithful, therefore we should share it. So even if many others are posting a devotional, a bible study, a sermon or the like – I still must continue. You should too! If you aren’t a teacher you can spread the good word of the Lord by sharing something you have read, listened to or watched. This was actually how I came back to Christ after walking away – someone shared the devotional from her pastor – which lead me hungering for more and eating up everything he posted from devotional to sermons.  And, it is quite easy to share with all these social media platforms. Share in the teaching of the word of God. And share…

Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him. An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. It is the hard-working farmer who ought to have the first share of the crops. Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.” 2 Timothy 2:3-7 ESV

Share in the suffering – sometimes we get teased or even actually persecuted for sharing the gospel on social media. Whenever I share on social media – it gets downright nasty.  I admit I am suggesting you do something I don’t do often.  I do not use my social media for much except following a couple ministries.  Here and in person are where I share the gospel. In person is much more difficult in some respects. But this is what God tells me to do. I realize we are not all called to preach to people in person and write blogs, which is why I suggested sharing (and it led nicely into the next verse about sharing the suffering).
This is a battle – getting more real every day. We are fighting for our spirits to be awakened and our souls to be saved as well as for those around us.

Verse 4 – 6 remind us to stay focused. Remember how last week I was so focused on the tasks of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur – and repentance and starting fresh… and how focused many of my friends who are believers were – and a week later and already it’s all ‘presidential debate blah blah blah’ and ‘election blah blah bla’ and ‘work blah, blah blah’. And that is just what is coming out of my mouth!!! It’s so easy to get distracted by these things – and if not careful they can also entangled you. (Yes, stay well informed – but also stay focused on God.) We are in a war for Christ sake!

And verse 7 – thinking on these thing for understanding.  Pastor posts a verse every day with a short little bit of his teaching along with it and all day I refer back to is – thinking on it – because that is how our understanding is opened and the truths in the Bible are revealed. Have you noticed I always try to include in my opening prayer at the top the request that God gives us the understanding? First, if I don’t understand, how can I teach? Second, if you don’t understand – I have failed as a teacher. And most of the scripture can only be revealed by God himself.

Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel, for which I am suffering, bound with chains as a criminal. But the word of God is not bound! 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.” 2 Timothy 2:8-10 ESV

Preach the gospel of Christ Jesus. I may be bound by corporate rules of not preaching at work – but the word of God is not bound. So I share what is happening in my life for God’s glory and quote scripture verses without reference – therefore I am still getting the gospel message out there.
I may be bound by a mask and covid-19 response restrictions – but the word of God is not bound!!! I may be bound with restriction to my location on this globe without funds to travel – but the word of God is not bound and through this blog alone the word of God is read daily in places like South Africa, France, India, UK, Italy, Canada, Nigeria, Uganda, Austria, Russia, and the United States.
God is not limited by our situation – or by our pandemic response measures – or by anything. Nothing created can limit our God – His word never returns to Him void and it always completes what God intended it to complete (Isaiah 55:11).

From grace sustaining us and strengthening us – to “Jesus Christ with Eternal Glory”. I would like to start with verse 1 and finish with that. It is the story of the Bible, the story of Jesus’s life, the story of our redemption. From grace to God’s glory.

But because I love you I will finish the passage –
11 The saying is trustworthy, for: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; 13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful—for he cannot deny himself.”  2 Timothy 2:11-13 ESV

If there is anything from today’s reading you might meditate on – these verses are so full.  Die with Him to live with Him. Endure and therefore reign. But if we deny Him he will also deny us.
And if we are faithless, beat down, have a migraine, want to give up (not forever, just a day or so) HE (God) remains faithful.  God cannot deny Himself.  This is who God is – Love. He loves us so much that none of us having a relationship with Him is based on our ability to be faithful – NO! He is still faithful. It is who He is. – Faithful to love us – faithful to give us grace and strengthen us.

If you don’t already, and today you would like to have a relationship with a God who can communicate with you and be part of your life (and protect you) – one who is full of mighty power and tender love, then please know that I have put the “A, B, C’s of Salvation” in my introduction. Are You Equipped for Good Work in These Times?

16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV

Dear Heavenly Father – We join again today to study what you have for us to learn. Let us be humble and merciful while standing strong and immovable. Please open our eyes to see and our understanding to the ways of you. – In Jesus name we pray, Amen

After the call to Return to Christ this past Saturday, and the day of atonement on Monday, I had huge expectations of people repenting in large numbers.  I also have the understanding that we live in perilous times (as described in this Bible passage) and so the mass level of repentance I hope for, probably won’t happen.

I am in good company, though – John the Baptist preached repentance and had shown hints of expectations that once people knew the truth they would rent their clothes, throw themselves on the ground in humility and shame, then fast, and pray in repentance.  A small amount of the population did.  But John’s followers were not the entire nation of Israel as John had probably hoped.
Elijah prayed for Israel’s repentance and a drought. He was sure that when the rains came – the nation would cry out to God in repentance. Instead it found him running for his life.
And I think, if we spend a day or so more, than a weekend, fasting and praying for repentance my nation and possible my planet would fall on their knees with a fresh revelation of who Christ is and repent.  But the people in my world seem to want the healing and the blessings without the work – without the sacrifice of sin. Without accountability and responsibility for their own actions.

“But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.” 2 Timothy 3:1-9 NKJV

I can’t get the verse about having a form of ‘godliness and denying the power thereof” out of my mind lately.  God has shown me His judgment is loosed – and the only way to stop it is repentance, yet I look around at so many luke-warm Christians in my social media feeds, in churches, and even some I know personally.

I say this because: I hear them tell me they are a Christian – but they love themselves and their own recognition above what God is saying and obedience to His will.  I have recently finished a study on pride and have learned it is one of the most dangerous of sins – and loving money (idolatry, lust for possessions), boasting, blaspheming, being disobedient to parents and authority, being ungrateful and unholy are all forms of pride. Pride is basically an attitude that raises self to God’s level or in independence of God.
I have seen so many self proclaiming Christians always “learning” yet they don’t seem to come to the full knowledge – their social media memes are those muddied water memes I posted about back on June 5th.   Even when I speak to those people they say things that are so corrupted they have not only lost the power of God, but they are completely false – and they say – well, I meant well.  Yes, never underestimate the value of a heart after God – but when you say you seek to learn and cannot come to the truth – maybe, you are resisting the truth.
I mean, if you are in the United States or know people from the states – you have seen the aftermath of the Presidential debates on social media.  Both on the stage at the debate and throughout the states you can see those who “resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith;” and God is giving a warning in these perilous times that “they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all.”  Yes, Lord, please expose the truth. The truth about the candidates, the truth about the media, the truth about what is really going on. -amen
Be warned, in your own life as well – God is exposing truths. Everywhere, God is exposing truths!

Evil isn’t even trying to hide it’s self anymore. People resist the truth – God can reveal it and they would deny it. God could turn the sky green and we could see that it was now green – and they would say, ‘no, the sky is blue’ while being offended that we might suggest otherwise.

When the disciples asked Jesus about the end of time Jesus described it as follows:
10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.” Matthew 24:10-12 NKJV

Yes, these are perilous times we live in. Yes, it can get worse and it will – because Jesus goes on in this passage to describe it getting worse. And the passage of 2 Timothy 3 also says so:
13 But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.” 2 Timothy 3:13 NKJV

But God did not leave us with all this perilous news and not remind us of His plan, His protection and provisions, and a strong dose of truth.
10 But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance, 11 persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me. 12 Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.” 2 Timothy 3:10-12 NKJV

Jesus suffered and died a horrible death on the cross – God’s own son. Paul lived persecuted and died as a martyr. All of the disciples died as martyrs. What makes us think we are so much better than they are? That somehow we get to go through this unscathed and still covered by grace? The time is upon the world for God’s judgment and the righteous shall live among it protected by God. Live in the midst of it and the earthly reward for their righteousness shall be persecution.

14 But you must continue…” – Don’t give up!!! “But you must continue” because you are created for such a time as this. “But you must continue” because you are called for such a time as this! “But you must continue” “But you must continue” “But you must continue” – if for no other reason, than because the Bible says so and it is the right thing to do.

“14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:14-17 NKJV

Which are you? Equipped for the work that we have to do in these times? or are you one of the ungodly and unrepentant that God is so desperately trying to get the attention of – and He wants to save all from the wrath to come (which will be worse than the persecution we shall endure).

If you don’t already, and today you would like to have a relationship with a God who can communicate with you and be part of your life (and protect you) – one who is full of mighty power and tender love, then please know that I have put the “A, B, C’s of Salvation” in my introduction. Civil Disobedience vs Obedience (part 3)

“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.” Romans 13:1 ESV

Dear Heavenly Father – Please guide us in these times. Help us know your will and obey it. Please open our eyes and ears and understanding to know what you are saying to us today. In the name of Jesus – Amen

We are still thinking about if and when is it appropriate for Christians to participate in civil disobedience?  As the world gets more difficult, at what point do we, and how do we, disobey? It is important to know how to continue to respond to the mask mandate – and also to learn how to respond to any future mandates.

“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also for the sake of conscience.
For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.
Romans 13:1-7 ESV

So we are studying for insight as to if and when we can participate in civil disobedience (and yesterday the Book of Daniel gave us some great guidelines). But here in our primary passage paying taxes popped in! In the church of Rome at the time in which Paul was writing – their unfair law was taxes (something most of us have already come to terms with.  For us it is social distancing, mask mandates, not being able to go to church in the same manner we used to. And I am sure there will be more unfair, unreasonable, laws and rules in the future.
Verse 6 could very well say: ‘for because of this you also wear masks and practice social distancing, for the authorities are ministers of God’.  We are to respect and honor the position of authority as we have seen in verse 1 that God placed those in power over us.  It is God’s job to change their hearts. It is God’s reputation on the line when it comes to the actions of those in authority.  God shall stop the unfairness if He wills it. God has not yet stopped it, therefore it is still God’s will for us to wear masks and social distance.

I personally hate the masks. I pray, every time I put one on, that they are taken from us.  My flesh is not happy. I have searched the scriptures. I have listened to the pastors who say – breaking this rule is ok, and I have read the scriptures they present to back their claim. BUT those verses seem taken out of context.

I know my God is able to keep me from sickness and therefore the masks and social distancing seem to be a pointless activity.  Yet, I cannot find here any other option but to be subject to these things in obedience to God.

Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.” Romans 13:8-10 ESV
We looked at this verse earlier in the week. Our response is to be love.  I intentionally made my fabric mask out of material that says love. It also says family, sister, brother, friend, etc. the print of the fabric is all sorts of words describing who along with the word love. I did this to remind myself to love. And that my words should be loving.  That I may not like wearing it and may call it all sorts of names like obedience muzzle – but I am to respond outwardly in love so that God gets the glory.

How does God get the glory from us being subject to these rules? Anytime more of our flesh is put off (or as Romans chapter 6 & 7 describes it as being dead to sin and flesh) God is glorified – by filling us with His spirit more and working through us more and let us not forget that scary verse where God turns away (from heaven) those who thought they were Christians but did not do the will of the father.

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’  And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.” Matthew 7:21-23 ESV

There may come a time for civil disobedience but NOT wearing a mask seems to be a version of lawlessness. (However, as I began the week saying – some of you may be called and told by God not to wear one for reasons and purposes God has not revealed to me. This is not a post for those of you living within the will of the Father – this is for the rest of us who God has not spoken to differently. This is for those of us who are studying the Bible to do as it says. If God reveals something else – that is between you and God. And if I am wrong in this study, feel free to show me the correct verses on civil disobedience. Honestly, I am fallible and would welcome a biblical stand against this nonsense. As I have said all week – this study goes against my flesh.)

11 Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.” Romans 13:11 ESV

It is high time to wake-up. This – this is the verse for such a time as this! These next few are the verses we need!!!

12 The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.” Romans 13:12-14 ESV

Rise and shine! Wake-up! Today is the day!!! Repent from the flesh and the fed up with crazy unfair rules – there is a bigger picture we must not fail to see!!! Put on the armor of light! Why? Because we are in a spiritual battle for our own soul as well as the souls of ever living person!  Put of the flesh – make NO provision for the flesh! It doesn’t matter if you do not desire to wear a mask or social distance (or the Roman church who didn’t want to pay taxes).  This isn’t a battle against masks and rules – it is a battle against principalities and powers (Ephesians 6:12).  Isn’t it high time we wake up – fall in rank and file and be good little soldiers of Christ??

The time will come to face the fiery furnaces and the lions’ dens. You see that death is on the line when rules are made that oppose God (yesterday’s post).  Death is not the consequence of masks and socially distancing – put on the armor of God and a mask and get to work for the kingdom! Isn’t that the point of our relationship with Christ?

If you don’t already, and today you would like to have a relationship with a God who can communicate with you and be part of your life (and protect you) – one who is full of mighty power and tender love, then please know that I have put the “A, B, C’s of Salvation” in my introduction.
