“For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them” Proverbs 1:32 ESV
Are you feeling so overwhelmed with everything that you are beginning not to care – becoming complacent? Have you given up hope? Are you just rolling through routine and forgotten your purpose? Beware – complacency kills.
Dear Heavenly Father – Thank you for your Word, please help us hide it in our hearts to keep us strengthened. Please open our eyes to see and our understanding to learn more of you. – In Jesus name we pray, Amen
This week, these messages shall be shorter, as I am having computer issues – which God has already provided a solution for!! Praise the Lord! (Unfortunately it will take time – fortunately I still have access to at least upload shorter studies! God is good!)
The world we live in is so broken. Every day I see God exposing evil and evil exposing itself. And at this point with the constant bombardment of news (that has been twisted and headlines designed to keep the masses bound by fear), I find many of us starting to feel numb, complacent, and tired out.
“The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.” Proverbs 13:4 ESV
Part of the problem is ‘nice’ churches with ‘nice’ messages – not challenging us to go deeper with Christ – not challenging us to grow into Christian maturity. This is part of the root cause of what is wrong with the world today. Without a strong, solid, kick in the pants on Sunday (done in love of course), what will keep us in line all week – and while I am on the topic, what ever happened to mid-week services to refuel us and encourage us?!
The entirety of the problem is sin. Sin has snuck into our churches – into each of us individually and created stronghold for the enemy. And it grieves me. I know it grieves our heavenly father more.
So while the world tried to wear us down and get us to give up with the compromise of complacency – there are so many Christians already right on the edge if not already complacent thanks to the dulling down of the church.
“About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.” Hebrews 5:11 ESV
And apparently this is a repeat problem.
This is not a time for going numb or complacency – and definitely not a time to be tired of it all. This is a time to build endurance.
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.” 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 ESV
It is urgent that we build endurance and not complacency in this time. Use this time to fact check every article, discuss current events with close friends and brothers and sisters so we can share the responsibility of learning the truth. It is time to hit the floor in prayer, diligently and persistently like the persistent widow (Luke 18). It is a time to read the Bible more and memorize it. It is a time to build endurance in case the time comes when we must endure.
“Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth.” Revelations 3:10 ESV
It is a time to encourage each other in the Lord and the power of His might (Ephesians 6:10). It is time to put aside the temptations of the flesh and the distractions of daily life and look at the big picture.
It is a time to work on our relationship with Christ – maybe take extra time alone with Him. It is time to redeem the time for the days are evil (Ephesians 5:16).
If you don’t already, and today you would like to have a relationship with a God who can communicate with you and be part of your life (and protect you) – one who is full of mighty power and tender love, then please know that I have put the “A, B, C’s of Salvation” in my introduction.
