“Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.” Proverbs 10:19 NLT
This is the last bit of everything you need to know before you open your mouth again.
I don’t know, though… there seems to be so much more than just this!!
Dear Heavenly Father – We have seen so many loose mouths spitting out lies, negativity and curses – help us to not participate. Let us discern truth from lies and live in truth. Help us to stand firm in the positivity and hope of our redemption. And please keep and guard us from speaking curses, especially unknowingly. Please open our eyes to see and our understanding to the ways of you. – In Jesus name we pray, Amen
We are still studying the power of our words. Words can give life or death.
“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:21 NIV
We have covered that the very first Bible story and lesson for us is that “God said” – and the power of words to create, heal, and bring the potential to save the world. We have studied how through the choice of words we destroy ourselves or bless ourselves and others. We have learned not to curse and to bless. We hopefully have repented of our careless words and purposed in our hearts and minds to use words to bless and bring life. And we are learning about the power and authority we were given to choose words that can transform our world.
Jesus has authority and gave us authority to transform the world as long as we are within God’s will and submitted under authority. First, Jesus gave this authority to His disciples.
“And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases” Luke 9:1 ESV
They were under the authority of God then Jesus – there was no church to submit to at that time. So they submitted and acted under authority to use their authority (as we studied yesterday). This was the example for all Christian thereafter.
“Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.” Luke 10:19 ESV
We are given authority. First we are under authority, so we can only use our authority as God tells us to. I am not running out to drink poison saying that it won’t harm me – because God did not tell me to. If God told me to, then I would; because I have authority over it as my Commander gives me instructions to. I added this more for further instruction on the structure of authority (and a reminder of yesterday’s study). Now back to words….
“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” John 6:63 ESV
As you can see – words can transcend the physical realm right into the spirit realm.
“Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 18:18 ESV
Always note the “AND” in this verse. This verse is great instruction on HOW to use the power and authority we were given to choose words that can transform our world. For example, Jane Doe has a critical spirit. She has tried everything to stop being critical, it would seem to have a strong hold – what do we do? We bind the spirit! Then because the verse has the word “AND” we must then loose something. She is bound and entangled with a stronghold so we loose her! How do we bind and loose? We submit to our authority, we choose the words, we speak it into the chain of command under us (in the spirit realm) – and it is done.
“And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.” Mark 16:17-18 ESV
Many a time I have questioned people’s salvation and who they serve. For example the other day I essentially said that if you lie you are a child of the devil – but the Bible said so and I gave you the verse. God has given us many verses about how to discern who truly is a believer and who isn’t. This is one of those verses. (Someday I should do a full study on discernment verses judging people.)
Do you really want to know who is and who isn’t living in a relationship with the one true living God – Here it is. I mean, I haven’t drank any poison yet – But Christians do cast out demons, they do speak in tongues, and they do heal the sick. If not, it is fair to question if they are a believer. And if these signs are not accompanying you, maybe it is time to ask why.
I can say most assuredly they are not accompanying me to the degree in which God wants them to in the near future. I was a bit slow to submitting to all authority that I should have. (Part of it was the pride issue I had, and we discussed, as well.) But God revealed it all, and I corrected it, and I am now waiting on the proper structure to move into the position where I will be able to use it. In my zealousness I may have originally put the cart before the horse! And if not for grace I would be all out of order.
Maybe it isn’t a matter of authority for you – maybe you are afraid of choosing powerful words – afraid of transforming the landscape – or afraid of the power in and of itself.
Maybe you too are waiting on the Lord – growing in wisdom while waiting to be released into the place He has for you to be loosed in.
It is important to ask God where you are at in the process and how to get to the place where you are regularly casting out demons, healing the sick and speaking in tongues.
Let us finish this study with one more exercise in speaking words of life into our life and others:
“Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.” Proverbs 27:2 ESV
So, let us shut our mouths to self-praise and spend the day focused on praising others and praising God above all else!
Praise God! The one true living God! Praise Him from whom all blessings flow! Help us Lord to find opportunity to praise those in our family and within our homes – Help us know when to praise our children, and their children! – Let us praise our pets – Let us give praise to you Lord for our finances, job and ministries – help us find opportunity to say praise type complements of our leaders and our government officials – Lord we praise you for our nations – We praise you Lord for saving our souls and praise you for what you are doing to reach the souls of the prodigals and the souls of the lost – we praise you for everything in our lives – in the name of Jesus ~amen!
Speak it – pray it – believe it.
If you don’t already, and today you would like to have a relationship with a God who can communicate with you and be part of your life (and protect you) – one who is full of mighty power and tender love, then please know that I have put the “A, B, C’s of Salvation” in my introduction.
