“Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.” Proverbs 10:19 NLT
Here we continue with everything you need to know before you open your mouth again. I am trying to cover this in only 6 posts – 2 more to come. Yes only 2 more to go!!
Dear Heavenly Father – We have seen so many loose mouths spitting out lies, negativity and curses – help us to not participate. Let us discern truth from lies and live in truth. Help us to stand firm in the positivity and hope of our redemption. And please keep and guard us from speaking curses, especially unknowingly. Please open our eyes to see and our understanding to the ways of you. – In Jesus name we pray, Amen
We are still studying the power of our words. Words can give life or death.
“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:21 NIV
I pray that the words in my posts bring life. The Bible says the word of God never returns void and always accomplishes what it intended to accomplish (Isaiah 55:11) and this is the grace I live under while posting my Bible studies. Although there is greater accountability for those who teach the Word of God, there is also this grace: that The Word does what it intended to do when it is put out there. I pray that God blesses those who read this – but it is completely in God’s hands and it is His job to make His Word work. It is beautiful grace.
This is my 200th grace covered post and Bible study! On average, I type 1,422 grace covered words per post, which go out to accomplish the work of God. Almost 300,000 words – words that I will be held accountable for, words that I pray will bring life and blessings to my readers, and words that I must carefully and prayerfully choose. (Special thank you to those who have read every one of those 300,000 words – may the Lord bless you abundantly for going on this journey with me.)
It seems so fitting that my 200th post milestone would fall in the middle of a study on words.
The written word is powerful, as it can easily become spoken word and it lasts for a longer time; and how many times have I encouraged you to speak some of these encouraging truths that we study into your life?! All for the Glory of God!
Monday nights around 10 pm (most popular day and time) – most of you open the internet and click on this blog also holding me accountable for studying, posting, and for every word I type. As I compose this and look at the site’s stats, I see someone from France just read a post – may God bless them and speak to them and reveal His love to them.
My friend from South Africa gets extra prays, because they used to posts comments the most out of everyone – but then stopped suddenly. Praying that all is well and that God’s protection covers them and brings life.
And I do pray over each person who clicks on the blog even though there are too many to keep track of – God knows who you are and is able to reach you, to keep you, and love you, in: India, the UK, Italy, Canada, Nigeria, Uganda, Austria, Russia as well as in the USA.
Words. Words are powerful – they can bring life, set captives free, and bring redemption. Or if we chose to do the works of the devil, then words can bring death, condemn, and bring destruction.
“The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.” Matthew 12:37 NLT
Many time we see in the Bible it is the actions of the people that bring acquittal; living holy and upright and letting God defend them. (Have you notice that when we defend ourselves, so many times our words are twisted and bring condemnation?) It is better to keep your mouth shut then to open it and let your own words condemn you!
In Romans 8, and as I say so many times, there is therefore now no condemnation in Christ!!! This is vital to understand. If the world condemns us, then it is not of God! If our minds condemn us, then we sidestepped – because our mind is to be convicted to repentance not condemned to judgment.
Let us learn when to open our mouths and speak words and when to hold our tongue!
All week I have suggested a type of blessed speech, a word to speak, into your life. I hope each day you tried to speak those blessings. The practice of speaking blessed words will bring you a life you can enjoy (even with trials and persecutions you will see many happy days). I know because the Bible says so:
“If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies.” 1 Peter 3:10 NLT
Beside receiving an enjoyable life – and reaping the blessings that we sow – and our faith being built up by seeing the blessing we speak be manifested in our lives and the lives of those around us… besides all these things… there are BIGGER and BETTER things that come from choosing our words carefully and for the glory of God.
One of the biggest rewards of learning to control our words is that others get built up and they benefit. This is the great mission God has sent us on: to share the gospel so others will be saved and to share with the other Christian so they too are build up and encourage and can also go share the good news.
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Ephesians 4:29 NIV
And this furthers the Kingdom of God! More lives can be saved from the wrath to come and enjoy the blessings of God while here on earth! Praise the Lord!
So be careful, nothing can defile you like words can. Although nothing will stop His love for us (Romans 8:31-39) and nothing will stop God from trying to save us, we ourselves can trade our assured hope for a defiled life with our choice of words.
“It’s not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth.” Matthew 15:11 NLT
As if I haven’t shared enough verses on this yet –
“And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right!” James 3:10 NLT
You do need to know (in case you missed how all week this verse was implied) it is NOT RIGHT for you to both bless and curse. Not right to be cursing all week and going into church at the end of the week and speak blessing and praise – IT IS NOT RIGHT.
Choose who you will serve – repent while there is time to repent – and learn to choose words of life!
“Like cold water to a weary soul, is good news from a distant land.” Proverbs 25:25 NIV
Oh the good news – time to proclaim the good news!
“How beautiful upon the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Who proclaims peace, Who brings glad tidings of good things, Who proclaims salvation, Who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!” Isaiah 52:7 NKJV
Today let us speak the good news of Christ, peace, and salvation!
Peace and salvation into our family relationships and within our homes – Peace and salvation to our homes – Peace and salvation to our children, and their children and their children! – Peace and salvation to our pets – Peace and salvation to our finances – Peace and salvation to our job and ministries – Peace and salvation to our government officials – Peace and salvation to our nations – Peace and salvation to our souls and the souls of the prodigals and the souls of the lost – Peace and salvation to our lives – in the name of Jesus ~amen!
Speak it – pray it – believe it.
If you don’t already, and today you would like to have a relationship with a God who can communicate with you and be part of your life (and protect you) – one who is full of mighty power and tender love, then please know that I have put the “A, B, C’s of Salvation” in my introduction.
