Guarding the Mind (part 3)

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.”  Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV

Dear Heavenly Father – Thank you for making our paths straight as we seek you to overcome our minds, thoughts and the battle against our minds. Please help everyone reading to guard their minds and hearts so you are glorified in us. Heal our minds, please oh Lord, as we meditate on these verses. Open our eyes, wake us up, and please open our understanding. In the name of Jesus – Amen

It is again, a day to be encouraged by the scriptures. A day to say: “It is written!” Therefore I believe it and that settles it. Let me challenge you to try to memorize some of these – they shall be our battle cry when the mind becomes a battle field. The words of the Lord are not fallible and never return void. I can tell you with confidence that: The Lord says…..

When our minds are given over to Him in complete trust – He makes our ways straight! Hallelujah! And when we stray, or find ourselves off course:
“The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.”  Psalm 34:17 NIV
He delivers us! Deliverance! Stronghold pulled down, demonic influences shut down, demons cast out – glory to God kind of deliverance! The kind that transforms us by removing the evil and filling us with more Holy Spirit! The kind that empowers us and makes us bold! The kind of deliverance that transports us back onto the straight path He has provided for us!

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23 NIV
As we learn about guarding our mind, we know there is a connection between the mind and the heart.  Guard also our heart! When we fall in love with a person, we know that at first our mind thinks of them so very often.  What we care about, what we love takes up space in our minds and it leads many of our actions like sending love notes and calling to hear their voice. This is one example, let’s look at a negative example: what if what we love is our sin. What if our heart pursues the lust of the flesh or lying or disobedience to God?! Those, then, also take up space in our mind and tempt us.  We must guard our hearts, therefore, in order to protect our minds.  Our hearts should love and our minds should think on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, things of good report, things full of virtue and praise.

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36 NIV
Dear Lord Jesus – We pray this verse. Please set our minds free and set our hearts free so we may freely follow and obey you.  Break any bondage, tear down any stronghold of the enemy, cast out any demons and set us free and on the straight path – for your glory and so that the will of our Father can be manifest in our lives! Through your blood, shed on the cross we pray – amen!

“This is what the LORD says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.” 2 Chronicles 20:15 NIV
The enemy seems great. There are so many all around us. Friends and loved ones in bondage being used by the enemy. Secular work environments with evil rising up against us daily. Everywhere I look with my earthly eyes – and it is so easy to get discouraged. BUT THIS IS A COMMAND: DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED OR AFRAID!!! DO NOT! Do not! Do not! Open our eyes Lord to see these things with your eyes! Because greater is He who is with me! And the army of Holy Angels is larger than the army of fallen angels. And even if there was not a vast army in spirit doing the work of our Father, the creator, He is able to overcome solely on His own. And in His infinite wisdom He has set forth Holy Angels and opportunity for us to grow and learn through these experiences instead of just doing everything for us. Like a good parent, like we do for our children. Praise the Lord, though – because in the end we cannot fail. It is His battle, His reputation and His glory on the line, not our own. And He is a succeeding God!

“Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” Psalm 55:22 NIV
Do not be shaken, as evil grows and end time prophesy fulfilled – do not be shaken. Stand fast. Give Him your cares for He cares for you. Give it all to Him. Even the small things. Give Him your cares about politics and He will guide you and help you pray over our world, country and local leaders. Give Him your cares for your unsaved love one and prodigals and He will send people to them to bear witness. Give him your daily things and He will help you and keep you all day.  Give Him the small thing – the intimate tiny little things you would not dare bother anyone with – in this verse God is asking for those as well. God is asking – do not leave Him hanging out there. Disobedience is like rebellion against God. So give it all to him.
Cares kept inside our minds turn into worry and that turns into anxiety. Cares kept inside have the potential to cause sin, cause us to act in our will, our might, our plans and NOT Gods – this can lead to evil grabbing a foothold. Things can snowball from there. And it all can be avoided by guarding our minds and simply trusting God to handle all our cares big and small. And that is our hope…

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Romans 12:12 NIV
Hope gives joy!  We have studies tests and trials and troubles – affliction is another with its own unique characteristics and causes. But in them all be patient. Hang onto God and do not let go. And pray, always. Do not keep these things in your mind! Guard your mind especially in times of affliction.

There are so many verses – so many ways to guard our minds! So many battles fought in our minds and so many promises of God for each and every one. He has already made the promise. It is already written. If the promise for your situation isn’t here, then search the Bible! I have never ever once not found a promise in the Bible for any situation I was praying for. I can honestly say, there were a couple times I threw my hands up and said – there is no promise in the Bible for this problem.  I was wrong – deeply wrong!  There was a promise – I just didn’t want that one because it didn’t fulfil my fleshly desires. Well, God straightened me out – put me back on the straight path walking with Him. And that same promise now comforts me more than most other promises. This – This is what a relationship is all about. So much like a relationship with a close human friend, except this friend’s advice never fails and this friend has the power to change the world!

If you don’t already, and today you would like to have a relationship with a God who can communicate with you and be part of your life (and protect you) – one who is full of mighty power and tender love, then please know that I have put the “A, B, C’s of Salvation” in my introduction.
