Love (part 6)

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” 1 John 3:1 NIV

Dear Heavenly Father – Please fill us with your love. Help us accept your love and share it with others. Please speak to us today through this word. – Amen

Love – Because this world still needs love, we shall do one more study on love.  We still need the power of love to transform, unite, heal, cast out demonic forces and accomplish the will of God. God’s love is SO good!!! Amen?

Let’s take a look at 1 John. There are so many verses in here about God’s love.

7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

13 This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

19 We love because he first loved us. 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.”

1 John 4:7-21 NIV

God is love. Actually is. This is literal and doesn’t need to be interpreted as God is like love, or God is full of love. God is love and love is god. Everything he has done is because He loves us and everything He is doing is because He loves us and as we move into the future – it is vital to understand that everything He will be doing is because He loves us.

Reread the opening verse: See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” Let that sink in – God wanted children and family, so He created us.  Have you ever wanted and or prayed for a child? Do you know that longing? Do you know how special children are? Mine can drive me nuts and hurt me well – but I love Him. I love Him more than I love anything on earth.  And I have had a broken understanding of love most of my life, meaning God loves me more than I love my own child. (He loves my child more than I love my child.)  Is this amazing love sinking in??

I pray at this point in the week you have grown in love and taken opportunities to practice godly love – now, we must practice the greatest commandment – love one another. If we do not, we do not know and understand God – and are falling short in some area of our life. Time to do more soul searching to figure out what the obstacle is and have it removed. Maybe un-forgiveness, maybe a spirit of anger, maybe a spirit of selfishness??? Whatever is holding you back be free of it in the name of Jesus and go in love.

Verse 12 – no one has seen God – but we have seen His work, His beautiful creation, and His love. I have seen Him intervene on my behalf in situations and I have seen His blessings in my life. I have seen God protect me and provide for me. I have a list a mile long of things I can testify to in order to show you God is real and has had an active part in my life.  And if you have not been given the Spirit as verse 13 says, you may not see all the things if I testified to them. But through the Spirit I see and know and have experienced the love of God and rely as verse 16 says on the love of God. And this is how love is made complete.

It is easy to miss what is being said – I hope you dwell on the word of God here today and let it transform you and grow your love. Because as the days grow more evil and morality and godliness decline the spirit of fear with possess more and more people and:

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” 1 John 4:18 NIV

Being a child of God is our most powerful tool – because it means our daddy is protecting us.  God will deal with those who dealt wrongly with you. All we need to do is actually fall in love with God and grow in love.

“We love because he first loved us.” 1 John 4:19 NIV

“And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.” 1 John 4:21 NIV

I pray that these studies on love will help you grow in love and grow in your relationship with Jesus. By the time you are reading this I have reread these quite a few times and I am growing as well. Yes, I know, I am a terrible editor. And not a very skilled writer. But God told me to type out my daily Bible studies and post them – so that is what I am doing. I appreciate all of you who follow this despite the many errors. But that is love – you have great love for me to keep reading and I have great love for you for suffering through my typos. Giggles.

If you don’t already, and today you would like to, have a relationship with a God who can communicate with you and be part of your life (and protect you) – one who is full of mighty power and tender love, then please know that I have put the “A, B, C’s of Salvation” in my introduction. Maranatha ~ Come Lord Jesus!

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13 NIV

  1. From 1 John 4, 10th verse “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins”, i can’t help but think that we cannot love or ever know love outside of God. Outside of Who He Is, as verse 8 says,’God is love”. And i always say, He is the essence of love!
