“15 If anyone stirs up strife, it is not from me; whoever stirs up strife with you shall fall because of you. 16 Behold, I have created the smith who blows the fire of coals and produces a weapon for its purpose. I have also created the ravager to destroy; 17 no weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their vindication from me, declares the Lord.” Isaiah 54:15-17 ESV
Dear Heavenly Father – please continue to reveal to us what you are telling us as we finish studying this chapter. We are expecting to hear from you and learn your amazing love, promises and covenant for us. Please give us ears to hear and eyes to see and open our understanding. – Amen
A couple posts ago reviewed verses 1-6 of Isaiah 54 – in which we studied the command to sing and the promise of restoration for all those areas of our lives that seem barren. Then we reviewed verses 7-8 and how great God’s love is that nothing can separate us from Him. Yesterday we studied more about your promises and the covenant you have made with us in verses 9-14. Today we conclude the chapter starting at verse 15.
“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord.” Isaiah 54:17 NKJV
This verse is powerful. I heard it multiple times a day until I finally picked up my Bible and read the whole passage and posted it. Then God told me to break it down and study it deeper. And now we are back to this verse that started this whole thing.
Even in the times of Isaiah, there were those who stirred the pot, so to speak, the ones who stir up trouble just for the sake of trouble. Verse 15 above starts us off today with talking about those people. God make it very clear – “it is not from me.” But what people mean for evil against you, God can use it for good – for His plan.
“As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good” Genesis 50:20a ESV
This means that God did not intend for it to happen this way. God did not want the evil to come near us – He will keep it from harming us by turning it into good.
Nothing gets me more upset then hearing people say that the bad things in their lives are from God. When pointed out, they say: ‘well, I mean God turned it around’. There is a huge difference – God is good. God turns evil to good. Never diminish God’s goodness and love or His powers to save and change situations. Never. It is so ungrateful and literally the antichrist spirit (opposite of Christ’s spirit).
“stirs up strife with you, shall fall because of you” – this does NOT give you permission to hatch an evil plan to get back at them. This does not mean YOU (or I) get to DO anything about these trouble makers. Matthew 22:34-40 clearly tells us what we are to do about trouble makers – we are to love them as Jesus loves us. All these days of studies on how much God loves us, this is when it is time to practice it.
I have a co-worker who stirred up some trouble lying about me (3 days before their birthday). So, as hard as it was, I still gave them a nice birthday gift. As hard as it was, I still sent them best wishes on their social media on their birthday. Why?? Because our response must always be love. Even if we need God’s help to love them.
Let us check out other translations:
“If any nation comes to fight you, it will not be sent by me to punish you. Therefore, it will be routed, for I am on your side.” Isaiah 54:15 TLB
“Any alliance that forms against you will not be my doing; whoever tries to form such an alliance will fall because of you” Isaiah 54:15 CJB
So, any one person stirring up trouble, or any alliance (multiple trouble makers, an actual organization or group), or any nation (by ways of laws they pass that oppress and persecute the church – or any other way) – none of these are from God and shall fail. In relation to His bride under the covenant in this chapter – ONLY His will shall prevail. (That doesn’t mean weapons will not be formed, evil plans hatched, and/or trouble won’t come against us – it just means God is ready to work it for the good. Romans 8:28)
God created man and his ability to create weapon. Verse 16 is referring to physical weapons. There are spiritual weapons as well and God created the demons who make those weapons as well. Spiritual weapons may not be seen by human eyes unless God reveals them to us. This verse reminds us that we are in a spiritual battle (and sometimes it manifests in the physical realm).
“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 KJV
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:12 NIV
Even battles in the physical are still won in the spirit; as we see when Elisha asked God to open His servant’s eyes to see the army of the lord (2 Kings 6).
“He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 2 Kings 6:16 ESV
“You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4 NIV
In us is Jesus! (If we have asked Him into our lives.) and Jesus is the word (John chapter 1) and the word is a sword. Hallelujah!
“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12 ESV
Even though that verse explains how powerful that sword is, then let us also consider and add to it, the knowledge that:
“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” Matthew 28:18 NIV
Jesus has all the authority! ALL! So, let us get dressed in the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) and get on our knees in prayer. Memorizing the Word (since it is Jesus) is a great way to get Jesus inside you – then quote it; swing that sword! Learn to fight in the spirit!
“17 But in that coming day, no weapon turned against you shall succeed, and you will have justice against every courtroom lie. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord. This is the blessing I have given you, says the Lord.” Isaiah 54:17 TLB
“17 No weapon made will prevail against you. In court you will refute every accusation. The servants of Adonai inherit all this; the reward for their righteousness is from me,” says Adonai.” Isaiah 54:17 CJB
In some versions of this verse, in the Bible, the battle seems to be a war, in others (like these two) it seems to be a judicial battle, in a court room – against lies and spiritual weapons.
It is clear that these verses are about God’s plan and His covenant of Love prevailing against both physical and spiritual battles played out on a battle field, in a court room, in an office, and anywhere anyone or anything comes up against God’s covenant people.
So, the next time a weapon is formed, or if there is one now, do not just remember that it shall not prosper – remember to sing and praise, remember the blessing is coming (so make room for it), remember we have a covenant with our bridegroom, remember the battle is His, and when fear tried to shake you, respond with “It is written!”
These are some of the blessing that come from letting a mighty God love you and having a relationship with Him.
If you don’t already, and today you would like to, have a relationship with a God who can communicate with you and be part of your life (and protect you) – one who is full of mighty power and tender love, then please know that I have put the “A, B, C’s of Salvation” in my introduction. “Sing, barren woman who has never had a child! Burst into song, shout for joy, you who have never been in labor! For the deserted wife will have more children than the woman who is living with her husband,” says Adonai. 2 Enlarge the space for your tent, extend the curtains of your dwelling; do not hold back, lengthen your cords, make your tent pegs firm. 3 For you will spread out to the right and the left, your descendants will possess the nations and inhabit the desolated cities.
4 Don’t be afraid, for you won’t be ashamed; don’t be discouraged, for you won’t be disgraced. You will forget the shame of your youth, no longer remember the dishonor of being widowed. 5 For your husband is your Maker,
Adonai–Tzva’ot is his name. The Holy One of Isra’el is your Redeemer. He will be called the God of all the earth. 6 For Adonai has called you back like a wife abandoned and grief-stricken; “A wife married in her youth cannot be rejected,” says your God.
7 “Briefly I abandoned you, but with great compassion I am taking you back. 8 I was angry for a moment and hid my face from you; but with everlasting grace I will have compassion on you,” says Adonai your Redeemer.
9 “For me this is like Noach’s flood. Just as I swore that no flood like Noach’s would ever again cover the earth, so now I swear that never again will I be angry with you or rebuke you. 10 For the mountains may leave and the hills be removed, but my grace will never leave you, and my covenant of peace will not be removed,” says Adonai, who has compassion on you.
11 “Storm-ravaged, unconsoled, I will set your stones in the finest way, lay your foundations with sapphires, 12 make your windows shine with rubies, your gates with garnet, your walls with gemstones. 13 All your children will be taught by Adonai; your children will have great peace. 14 In righteousness you will be established, far from oppression, with nothing to fear; far from ruin, for it will not come near you.
15 Any alliance that forms against you will not be my doing; whoever tries to form such an alliance will fall because of you. 6 It is I who created the craftsman who blows on the coals and forges weapons suited to their purpose; I also created the destroyer to work havoc. 17 No weapon made will prevail against you. In court you will refute every accusation. The servants of Adonai inherit all this; the reward for their righteousness is from me,” says Adonai.”Isaiah 54 CJB
